Ask a Landmatcher with Nyree Marsh Hosted by Young Agrarians

“Calling all farmers, landholders, and farm-curious folks! Looking for information or advice about leasing farmland? Come gather with your community for a Q&A session with Columbia Basin Land Matcher, Nyree Marsh!

Join us on Thursday, March 6th to learn how you can access farmland or lease your farmland, with support from the B.C. Land Matching Program. Nyree Marsh, our Columbia Basin Land Matcher, will share information and answer questions about leasing and sharing land, the land matching process and farm transition. Nyree has been farming or working with farmers in the Kootenays since 2005 – she offers a wealth of local farming knowledge, so bring all your questions!

We encourage all landholders to join us, whether you have a well-developed vision for your land or have just started thinking about land sharing. We also welcome all farmers and farmers-to-be, whether you grow fruits or veggies, raise livestock (or bees) or have some other farming project in mind.

Come stop by to learn about land sharing while connecting with your community!”

Decolonizing Climate Action Toolkit

Decolonizing Climate Action Toolkit

“This interactive, online workshop will be a deep dive into the recently released Decolonizing Climate Action Toolkit for ENGOs in so-called Canada.

All folks working on climate action are welcome to join us for this workshop!

Come join us to take next steps towards active allyship and in centering Indigenous Rights and Sovereignty in to your approach to climate action.

November 18th

1pm - 3pm

Check out the toolkit here: https://jengobby.wordpress.com/decolonizing-climate-action-tool-kit/

This workshop with be facilitated by Kahsennóktha, who is Kanien’kehà:ka from Kanehsatà:ke and by Jen Gobby, a settler organizer and researcher (www.jengobby.ca).

Translation will not be provided, but folks are invited to speak in either English of French.

More information about the Toolkit and workshop:

Deep down, most of us feel like the climate movement is stuck and even worse, that we’re losing ground. Despite raging wildfires, droughts and other climate disasters, more Canadians are turning to false solutions1. It’s clear that we need to rethink our approaches and find more powerful ways forward.

In recent years, Environmental Non-Governmental Organizations (ENGOs) have started to recognize what Indigenous people have been saying for decades: the driving causes of the climate crisis are colonialism, capitalism and extractivism. However, in grassroots and frontline communities, these acknowledgements from ENGOs have often felt opportunistic and hollow, paying lip service to a moral obligation, but not making the material changes that would make a difference.

In some cases, ENGOs perpetuate colonial relations that harm trust building and undermine Indigenous movements. For those looking to take real steps to decolonize your approaches and to meaningfully support Indigenous movements, this tool kit and workshop are here to guide you.

If Canada’s climate movement fully got behind this vision, it could be a major game changer. Decolonizing climate action is not just the right thing to do, but it is how we, together, become powerful enough to win.”
